SG Ball 2006 Season Report

This years SG Ball was one of the toughest (physically and mentally) that I have been associated with for a lot of years. This year’s draw was the hardest the club has seen for at least 10 -15 years, at a junior rep level.

Out of the top 9 finishing teams, we played 6 of them and considering everyone that finished in the eight only played 3 or 4, it makes you wonder if clubs would have been in the eight if they had the same draw as us!

Throughout the year the team had many highlights one of course is making the playoffs and another is the fact that we were the only team Penrith couldn't beat! We played them twice to win on both occasions. Penrith are now S G Ball premiers for 2006 and my congratulations go out to them.

I've always stated that Balmain do not have the quantity of players but we do have the quality. Congratulations go to Matt Ryan who played Jersey Flegg and also Premier League this year and was not out of place. Another player who sat on the bench for Premier League was Ahmid Omah, who is a great ambassador for the club.

I have been associated with a lot of these boys since coaching them in the u/13's development squad and to have them for this year was a real pleasure. I feel a part of their success and hope that everyone in the squad furthers their football career to reach their dream of playing league at the highest level.

I would like to make mention of those players who have been with me for the last 4 - 5 years. Matt Ryan, Ben Forbes, James Cameron, Daniel McGarry, Tama Taukeu, Dane Gernhoefer, Dean Webster, Tohi Leha, Chris Scuglia, Brad Dillon.

The rest of the team for 2006

Scott Goodsir, Brendan Train, Mitchell Achurch, Rhys Jack, Darren Nicholls, Nathan Plummer, Josh Irving, Lolo Tuitu’u, John Kiafoto, Ahmid Omah, Ben Falcone.

Lastly I would like to thank Troy Adams who's been the captain for the years I've coached him and has grown along with everyone else as a great player with tremendous ethics. Good luck to every player and official with their endeavurs in Rugby league.
