The 1909 season saw a remarkable turn of events with the second NSWRL Grand Final. On the Thursday before the match, Balmain officials met and issued the following statement: "It was unanimously agreed that it will be impossible to place a team on the field at 2pm on Saturday and also, that it being the final match to decide the premiership of the league football in N.S.Wales for season 1909, the action of the N.S.Wales League in playing it as an early match to the Wallabies v Kangaroos is an insult to the teams concerned." Balmain tried unsuccessfully to have the match rescheduled. However, on Saturday 18 September 1909, the Souths players walked through a picket line formed by some Balmain players to take the field at the Agricultural Ground. Souths kicked off and Kangaroo Billy Cann scored a try. Souths were then awarded the match 3-nil by the referee. |

1915 was Balmain's year!
The Tigers won every grade and completely dominated the competition. Balmain were undefeated Premiers in first grade and won the other 2 grades to capture the first ever hat-trick. The Tigers remain the only club in Australian rugby league history to be undefeated Premiers and win all three grades in two consecutive seasons 1915 and 1916. |

The 40's were the 'Golden Era' for our proud Club.
Premierships in 1944, 1946 and in 1947, Grand Finalists
in 1945 and 1948, and the Tigers also claimed the
Club Championship in 1941, 1943 and 1944.

If any one-year epitomises the spirit of the Tigers as a Club, that year would be 1969. The Tigers were not given a chance of winning the premiership against South Sydney. Souths boasted 11 internationals, but were outclassed by the underdog Tigers 11-2, posting one of the greatest upsets in Australian rugby league history.
