For Dene Halatau and Keith Galloway, the hardship and disappointment of the team's performances of late meant little at Truscott Street Public School on Wednesday, August 27. Halatau and Galloway were the only NRL representatives to attend the school's annual Special Sports Day for physically disabled students. They were joined by representatives from Cricket NSW, local rugby clubs, and cricketing greats Ian Chappell, Doug Waters, and Paralympian Louise Sauvage. Following a fun opening ceremony, Halatau and Galloway took part in helping students in wheelchairs from Truscott Street and Roselea School race one another. They also had a go at racing in wheelchairs themselves and found the task of moving a wheelchair around a challenging one. "These kids are inspirational,'' Halatau said. "You think you do it tough as a rugby league player when you are injured but when you see what some of these kids have been through, it makes you realise just how lucky we are." "Keith and I had a great time with the kids. They just keep smiling and you can see how much they enjoy this sports day. We are glad we went." |
