Wests Tigers Chairman David Trodden has described the decision by Leichhardt Council to approve the Balmain Leagues Club masterplan application as a defining moment in the history of the Balmain Tigers.
In front of a large gallery, Leichhardt Council tonight (Tuesday, June 3) gave approval to a multi-million masterplan re-development after three years of consultation.
Councillors voted 6-5 in favour of the application. Had the application not been approved, there were grave concerns Balmain Leagues Club would have possibly gone broke.
“This is a landmark day in the proud 100 years history of the Balmain Tigers,’’ Mr Trodden said.
“It was a long meeting. There was overwhelming support from everyone associated with the Balmain club from players, supporters to referees.
“The property has been re-zoned with a floor space ratio of 3.9 to 1 so it substantially increases the floor space ratio allowable on the property.
“This will allow for a mixed use re-development comprising of a new club, residential units, a supermarket and specialty retail.’’
