Sep 25, 2017 | By Tigers

Hooker Bennett Wheelhouse & utility Lachlan Ilias have both taken home multiple awards at Balmain Tigers 2017 Presentation.

Held at Ryde-Eastwood Leagues Club, the 2017 Balmain Tigers Presentation recognised the top performers in our 2017 Harold Matthews and SG Ball teams, Junior Development Squads and Balmain Junior League competitions.

SG Ball captain Wheelhouse, who went on to make his Holden Cup debut later in the year, took home the Adam Gardiner Best Forward and Players’ Player awards, while Ilias won Best Back and shared the John Kelly Quiet Achiever Award with five-eighth Kiani Marshall.

In the other major awards, Curtis Wilson took home the Keith Barnes Leading Point Scorer thanks to a 66 point haul in the SG Ball season (five tries and 23 goals) while Abdalla Matar took home the Scott Gale leading try-scorer award with six.

The club also honoured the service of much loved club volunteer June Maguire, who passed away during the season, posthumously awarding her the Kevin O’Keefe Club Person of the Year. Her son Barry, the long serving scoreboard attendant at Leichhardt Oval, accepted the award in her honour.
