In a black round for the Tigers, both Junior Cup sides were defeated by the Eels before Penrith toppled Wests Tigers in NRL, Intrust Super Premiership and Holden Cup clashes at Campbelltown Stadium last Sunday.
Balmain – minus key players in skipper Bennett Wheelhouse, back rower Henry Lealuga and lock Isaac Kennedy – led the Eels 16-6 in Ball Cup before crashing to their first loss of the season.
Abe Matar (2), Jubilee Soloa and Curtis Wilson scored tries with Ben Stevanovic booting two goals.
Parramatta downed the cubs 42-18 in Matthews Cup.
The Tigers fraternity are mourning the death of much-loved stalwart volunteer June Maguire who died suddenly at her Rozelle home last Friday aged 77.
Mrs Mac gave over 20 years of yeoman service to the Tigers and was a regular fixture at Leichhardt Oval – selling tickets, raffles and programs on game days and supporting the Balmain Junior League and junior rep teams.
She will be sorely missed. Her funeral service will be held this Friday at St Augustine’s Catholic Church Balmain at 10.30am.
Players’ Player Awards thanks to Castelmola went to Kirisone Vea (Harold Matthews) and Mateo Tatola (SG Ball).
