VALE - Kevin Rooney

Aug 23, 2018 | By Tigers

Balmain Leagues Club are deeply saddened to announce the passing of our President, Kevin Rooney, on Wednesday afternoon.

A true Balmain man to the core from the East End, like many in the community he spent time working on Balmain’s waterfront. Kevin was a fearless leader in the community and particularly with the Leagues Club.

Kevin was a foundation member of the Balmain Leagues Club in 1957, joined the board in 1987 and has been President since 2000. He was an active supporter of many sub-clubs at TIGERS, primarily the Black and Gold Sports Club, having a deep affection for all areas of the club and the members who visited.

Kevin was also one of a rare group of Life Members of both the Balmain Leagues Club and Balmain Tigers RLFC.

Balmain Leagues Club send our deepest condolences to Kevin’s wife Mary and their entire family. His passing is a loss felt deeply around our club and he will be sorely missed by all in the Tigers community.

Kevin’s funeral will be held on Wednesday 29th August, with a service at St Augustine’s Catholic Church, Balmain at 11:30am, followed by the wake at TIGERS Five Dock from 1pm.

TIGERS Five Dock will be closed as a mark of respect during the wake until 5pm.

I remember seeing him on a number of occasions at post match presentations and AGM’s and he was always mentioned at the beginning of each occasion. Vale Kevin Rooney. Sincerest condolences to all who knew him best.
