Honouring our past
100 years on and TIGERS are still burning bright.
Tigers have survived the changing face of Rugby League over the Super League battles, and decided in July of 1999 to form a joint venture with Western Suburbs to ensure the Tigers' remained in the competition. A name change in the NRL resulted - Wests Tigers, and so the mighty Tigers live on.
The Tigers Board decided that an appropriate way to commemorate and celebrate the playing legends of the Balmain Tigers would be to form a Hall of Fame.
The Hall of Fame will recognise legends of the Tigers from all eras culminating in a gala induction dinner to be held annually. The objectives of the Balmain Tigers Hall of Fame are:
- To acknowledge the efforts of former greats of Balmain Tigers and their contribution to the rich history of this football club.
- To induct annually at a dinner former greats to the Hall of Fame.
- To prominently display the images of Hall of Fame inductees as a focal point for all Balmain Tigers supporters.
- To assist in the development of rugby league in the Balmain district and the Balmain Tigers generally.
Membership to the Hall of Fame is decided by a voting "College", consisting of a significant number of individuals to be appointed annually by the Board. The College will reflect a mix of individuals including Balmain Tigers Team of the Century members, former first grade coaches, former chief executives, Life Members of Balmain Tigers, senior journalists and respected others.
In 2005 the members of the Balmain Tigers Team of the Century became the inaugural inductees to the Balmain Tigers Hall of Fame.
